Ram Mohan served NGRI for over 26 years [...]<content:encoded><![CDATA[ <p class="isSelectedEnd"><strong>HYDERABAD:</strong> Dr Mekala Ram Mohan, former chief scientist at the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI), Hyderabad, has been appointed director of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehradun.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">WIHG is an autonomous research and development institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.</p> <h3>Ram Mohan served NGRI for over 26 years</h3> <p class="isSelectedEnd">Ram Mohan was associated with CSIR-NGRI for more than 26 years from October 1999. He recently moved on lien to the University of Hyderabad (UoH), where he joined as a professor at the Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">A specialist in geochemistry and petrology, he has worked on Archean geodynamics, continental crustal evolution and the geological history of the Indian Shield. His research has combined field-based geological investigations with petrological and geochemical studies.</p> <h3>Geoscientist has received several national honours</h3> <p class="isSelectedEnd">During his tenure at CSIR-NGRI, Ram Mohan was involved in scientific programmes, academic activities, mentoring research students and research collaborations.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">His honours include Fellowship of the National Academy of Sciences, India, the National Geoscience Award, the H H Read Memorial Gold Medal, the Bellur Rama Rao Birth Centenary Award and the Krishnan Gold Medal.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">The National Geoscience Awards 2024 citation also recognised his contributions to understanding Archean crustal growth and the evolution of the Indian Shield.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">CSIR-NGRI congratulated Ram Mohan on his appointment and wished him success in his new leadership role.</p> ]]>
