A Class 10 student was allegedly assaulted and forced out of school by a teacher for not getting 'his hair cut' at Jhimani High School in Odisha 's Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday. The incident reportedly took place in Jhimani village under the Paradip Lock police station limits in Kujang. According to the allegation, the teacher questioned the student about his long hair. The student explained that he had not cut it because of the ongoing holy month of Shravan. However, the teacher was allegedly dissatisfied with the explanation and later beat the student, and pushed him out of the school premises. Instead of returning home, the student went directly to the local police station. Police later informed his parents about the incident, prompting them to contact the school. During the morning prayer, a teacher questioned him for not cutting his hair. He explained that he had kept his hair because the holy month of Shravan is underway and that he would get it cut after the month ends. Instead of accepting his explanation, the teacher allegedly beat him severely. His books were thrown out, and he was forced to leave the school. After school hours, he didn't come home but went straight to the police station without informing us. We came to know about the incident only after the police contacted us. When I asked the teacher about my son, he told me the child was still in school. I want justice for my son," said Ronali Sutar, the student's mother. The incident has triggered concern among local residents over the treatment of students in educational institutions. Corporal punishment in schools remains a serious issue despite clear guidelines discouraging such practices. Meanwhile, the headmaster said the issue has been resolved through mutual understanding between the parties.
