Assam Cabinet Approves New Councils to Review Government Welfare Schemes

India • 13h ago • Source: publicofindia

The Assam cabinet on Tuesday has approved the constitution of 15 new councils to review the implementation of government welfare schemes, assess their impact and submit recommendations based on public feedback. CM Sarma said, "Today, the cabinet gave a nod to the creation of around 20 new councils. These councils include the Assam Rural Livelihood Council, Health and Wellness Council, Education Entitlement Council, Assam Social Security Council and Public Housing Council". The councils will study the impact of every government scheme and submit recommendations on their implementation. He further added that the councils would review all existing schemes such as Orunodoi, Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat, Mukhya Mantri Ayushman Assam, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Tea Garden Schools and Tea Garden Health initiatives. "They will not function as authorities but will work directly with people, collect their feedback and submit recommendations to the government. Based on this feedback, the government will make necessary changes to the implementation of the schemes," CM Sarma added. Each council will comprise nine members, with a Cabinet Minister serving as chairperson, along with a vice-chairperson and seven other members. He clarified that the councils would not function as independent authorities but would engage directly with beneficiaries and the public to collect feedback on the schemes.
