The leaked details reportedly include names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, gender, email IDs, residential addresses, bank branches, Customer Information File (CIF) details, Lead IDs and loan-related records. SBI said it received information about the exposure from the Defence Cyber Agency and CERT-In on October 16 and is investigating the extent of the data theft. SBI has stated that all banking services are functioning normally and that immediate measures have been taken to address the incident. The bank has not named any hacker group in its stock exchange filing, while the group called Sirisym reportedly claimed access to data belonging to around 3.75 lakh customers. Cybersecurity experts advise customers to use unique passwords, activate transaction alerts and two-factor authentication, avoid suspicious links, check credit reports and lock Aadhaar biometrics. The dark web is also used for illegal trading of stolen data, making vigilance essential.
