Power Minister flags technical glitches, slow adoption of rooftop solar scheme

India • 13h ago • Source: publicofindia

Kohima, October 15 (MExN): Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye on Thursday reviewed the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana during the second day of the ongoing Seva Setu Abhiyan at Secretariat Junction in Kohima. The three-day campaign, which entered its second day on October 15, saw the Department of Power continue its efforts to raise public awareness and facilitate consumer registration for rooftop solar installations under the scheme. Kenye visited the venue and interacted with vendors and banking representatives, appreciating their efforts and encouraging them to continue supporting the initiative to promote rooftop solar adoption among consumers. Highlighting the challenges in implementing the scheme, the minister pointed to technical issues, including malfunctioning devices that had led to delays and complaints. He also noted that the adoption rate remained slow due to initial societal resistance to new technology. Kenye assured that the department was committed to addressing these challenges and working towards achieving the scheme’s subscription targets. Emphasising the importance of public awareness and confidence in the initiative, he expressed optimism that participation would increase as more successful installations were completed and households became aware of the benefits. The Department of Power reiterated its commitment to expanding outreach, facilitating consumer registration and encouraging more households to adopt rooftop solar power under the scheme.
