‘We Will Accept Her Leadership’: Adhir Invites Mamata Banerjee To Rejoin Congress With TMC MLAs, MPs

India • 13h ago • Source: publicofindia

A day after Mamata Banerjee attended the INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury urged the TMC supremo to rejoin the Congress along with the party’s remaining MLAs and MPs. Chowdhury said the Congress would accept Mamata’s leadership in West Bengal, but suggested she leave behind her “baggage”, an apparent reference to her nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He also appealed to the Congress high command to facilitate a possible merger and urged Mamata to support the Congress candidate in the upcoming Rejinagar assembly bypoll as a “friendly gesture”. Mamata had earlier asserted that the INDIA bloc remained united and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The remarks come amid reported organisational challenges facing the TMC in West Bengal.
