Guwahati: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has reported a sharp improvement in its financial performance, with Profit After Tax (PAT) rising by over 90 per cent to Rs 3,057 crore in 2025-26, even as its ambitious expansion to treble refining capacity from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA entered its final stretch. The performance figures were announced following NRL’s 33rd Annual General Meeting in Guwahati on Friday. NRL Chairman Dr Ranjit Rath and Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan addressed the post-AGM press conference, outlining the company’s financial performance, expansion plans and future growth trajectory. NRL’s net worth rose 17.69 per cent to Rs 18,912 crore, while revenue from operations increased to Rs 26,393 crore in 2025-26 from Rs 25,147 crore in the previous year. Profit Before Tax stood at Rs 4,077 crore, while earnings per share increased sharply to Rs 17.52 from Rs 9.82. The company attributed the strong rise in profitability primarily to improved product margins and higher sales volumes. On the operational front, the Numaligarh refinery processed 3,113 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) of crude oil, operating at 103 per cent of its rated capacity. Total sales volume during the year stood at 3,200 TMT. NRL also set a new production record for Motor Spirit (petrol) at 727 TMT, surpassing its earlier record of 725 TMT. Sulphur recovery touched a new high of 6.3 TMT, compared with the previous high of 5.6 TMT. Efficiency parameters also improved during the year. Distillate yield rose to 87.25 per cent from 87.10 per cent, while Specific Energy Consumption declined to 60.61 MBN from 61.47 MBN. The Energy Intensity Index improved to 80 per cent from 81 per cent. Target commission date is March 31, 2027. The project will treble the refinery’s capacity from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA, marking a fundamental transformation of NRL and significantly expanding its role in the energy and petrochemical sector. The company is also augmenting its Siliguri Marketing Terminal to facilitate evacuation of products after the expanded refinery is commissioned. The terminal expansion had achieved 86.3 per cent physical progress by the end of the financial year. NRL’s elevation from Miniratna Category-I to Navratna status in December 2025 was also highlighted as a significant milestone in the company’s growth. The company said its next phase would focus on strengthening its operational capabilities, expanding its business, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and contributing to India’s energy security. With NREP now 87 per cent complete, the focus is increasingly shifting from building the expanded refinery to integrating the new capacity with markets, logistics and a wider energy and petrochemical value chain.
